Well, its your own fault. Or is it? We ask others for advice, but someones else's recommendation is like anything else-it works for them, not necessarily for you. Even for those of you who subscribe to some cigar magazines beware. Some of the good ratings and featured smokes are bought and paid for. Yes buying them in singles may be good if you dont know if you want to buy them in bulk, but I've found the best way is to purchase samplers online or in the stores if they have them. These usually have a few different brands to try. I'll have to admit, I've never had a sampler where I liked every cigar. But there's usually a few new ones. I have found many brands now I now smoke that I wouldnt have before. I would have been stuck in the ACID brand instead of branching out. Thats not meaning to say I even all the cigars that Drew Estate puts out.
I've managed to try many different samplers and here's a few brands that I've enjoyed enough to smoke again.
CAO, Olivia, NUB, 5 Vegas, Connecticut (By Rocky Patel), Rocky Patel, Exclusively at Cigar Intl-the Legends brand, specifically the Copper label, and newly and only some of them- Gurkha. Most notably the Ghost.
Theres some I've tried which I really didn't care for: The Gran Habano, Hoyo De Monterey, and most of all La Gloria Cubana. When I put these few on the list, that's because they honestly are nasty. Nasty to the point where alcohol cant make them taste good. WOW.
Now I must say having a friend that likes the same cigars you do comes very much in handy. Especially one that runs a cigar shop. My buddy over at Cigar Warehouse knows my tastes well enough to point me over to a Gurkha that's finally smoke-able. Thumbs up to you!
Now to anyone who is new, what you drink when smoking can make or break your experience. Try to pair your drink with the type of cigar you're smoking. Obviously, Acid brand cigars you'll usually have something on the sweeter side. One of my favorite drinks when smoking is a Rum and Coke. This seems to be my universal drink. Now again just because it works for me doesn't mean it will for you. Don't sit down and have one and blame me because it ruins your expensive cigar. One thing I've recently discovered that seems to go along with some of them is a smooth Lychee Sake. Again, don't blame me for the wrong drink choice. If you sit down with a Coke and expect to have a pleasant smoke, that's entirely on you.
Sometimes it may be best for you to stay in your comfort zone. Much like those who order the same meal every time from a restaurant, maybe that's what works for you.
Either way,
Good Smoking!
