Nice Guys Finish Last...Tebow

Tebows an aging actor oh so furious. He must be furious at being passed up. No matter how much of a team player you are, you eventually get fed up. That's Tebows problem. Nice guys finish last. Why? They get walked all over because you don't stand up for yourself. That's what is happening to him on the Jets.  Im sure that's why he went to Big Ole Rex Ryan and voiced his displeasure at being totally disrespected. Im sorry folks, he has the right to do so. Sometimes the nice guy gets pushed too far and has to stand up for himself. That's it. There is no "He's trying to save his marketability." He is genuinely a nice person and people don't understand that in sports.

Everyone needs to realize it's not Tebows fault he cant throw as well as other quarterbacks. His coaches in Florida did him the greatest injustice in not teaching him as they are paid to do. Sometimes we get too caught up in winning titles and not developing young players. Coaches. You are role models. I believe that maybe the coaches should get more of the blame for Tebow.

Okay yes he plays in New York. He's unfairly held on a pedestal by some and unfairly criticized by others. Its not his fault. Yes he should've gone to the Jaguars and then we all could've forgotten about him like we should've already. But Tebow, you would've started already! You need to live with the fact that you're not going to be anything more than a marketing tool until you actually learn how to throw the ball.

Granted all he does is win. Its not pretty, but a win is a win. Someone give Tebow a chance won't you?

Fixing The NFL

Due to all the rule changes in the NFL, I have come up with a list of rule changes that could save Football.

-Hey Roger. Let the players celebrate if they want to, as long as its not disrespectful. Meaning, Dont do a T.O. and stand in the middle of the Dallas Star. No staged items still. But let them have their group celebrations! Fans want to see it!

-Like College Football Pass Interference should be 15 yards max. No heaving the ball down the field at the last second hoping to get a P.I. to get you down to the 1. And while we're at it, call an offensive P.I. for once won't you? Tired of seeing receivers push off like crazy and the defensive backs getting called for breathing wrong.

-Get rid of Illegal Contact. This doesnt mean get rid of P.I. or Holding, just let the Defensive Back try to actually defend a pass.

-Helmet to Helmet. Unless the Refs actually see someone try to hit someone by leaving their feet, or trying to hit someone in the head, don't call it anymore. You're penalizing the defense when the ball carrier puts his head down at the last minute. To quote Cris Carter: C'mon, Man! Now, after the game you can go back and review the hits and if you determine someone should be fined, then fine them. Warn them. Just dont give out bogus penalties anymore. While I'm on this subject. Stop with the quarterback not being able to be hit by a forearm in the head. You ruined the Eagles- Ravens game by calling a bogus penalty.

-Horse collar. No matter where on the field it happens, it is a penalty. No more "Well the Quarterbacks in the the pocket so its not a penalty" horse crap. Be consistent for once.

-No More Ties! How about you keep going til its over? I dont care how you do it, even if you line up with the kickers starting at a certain range to see who misses first. Just Stop. This is not Soccer.

-The Quarterback. He gets paid 100 million dollars and you cant hit him. What a life! How about you let him earn his money and find out why that position can be dangerous. Let them get hit. You cant hit him below the thighs or above the shoulder pads. How are you supposed to hit him? "Wait Mr. Quarterback Sir, can you not move and sit there so I can hit you properly?" Try it. Im sure he'd be happy to oblige.

-Defensive holding and illegal contact. Ok, If you're not going to get rid of Illegal Contact here's a suggestion. Make the penalties like the offensive versions. Right now offensive holding is a 10 yard and re-do down penalty. But the defensive holding is an automatic first down. So it can be 3rd and 56. But If I hold, I give the offense a first down? Huh? I'm going to assume there's some logic somewhere in this but I cant find it. Why not make it a 10 yard penalty not automatic first down. The theme here: be consistent.

-Better Records host the playoffs. If a team wins their division but has a lower record than the team they're playing, sorry the better team hosts. Maybe you should've been better. STOP REWARDING MEDIOCRITY! That's like if you gave every team in the league participation trophies.

A Football Rant

Like most Americans, I'm into sports. Especially Football. San Francisco 49ers to be exact. I've been a fan since the early '90s and have soared the greatest of highs, and drowned in the lowest of lows.

For the past few years, Ive been listening to the so called 'experts' pick them as favorites to go to the Superbowl. My thoughts? Blah Blah, everyone changes opinions week to week. One week they're the best team in Football, next its the Eagles with their 'Dream Team' or the Giants. This year its RGIII and his already playoff team before he got there.  But, I digress. As much as I want to believe the 49ers are going to the Superbowl, I dont see it. Im usually pretty good at predicting these things. Last year when the Packers were still undefeated I predicted they wouldnt make it to the Superbowl. This year, I predicted before the start of the season that the Lions would indeed not make it to the playoffs.

The 49ers dont really seem to want it bad enough.  They keep losing to teams they should outright own. The Rams? Really? Were you saving your best effort for the 5th quarter? I am a die-hard fan, but I can see whats coming. This past weekend, I picked the Seattle Seahawks to win. After the first touchdown, I knew it was going to be a blow-out. Wheres the D? Apparently thinking of what they were going to do for the holidays.

Now, on another subject, Im a Andrew Luck fan. Due only to his play in College. I believe he was screwed in the popularity contest they call the Heisman. Hey everyone, lets go for the hot QB in RGIII and ignore the guy whos been operating at a higher level for years! Yay! Seems to be following him into the NFL too. Andrew has done more with less, and still no one gives him any credit. Analysts are actually investing reasons to back him for MVP and Rookie of The Year. Kind of reminds you of a certain someone who last year someone called a future Hall of Famer? Where is he now?

I dont put much into what 'Experts" say any more. Just the other day when a pregame show was making their picks they put the records of everyone on the board. They even included the viewers who could vote with the Analysts. The viewers HAD A BETTER RECORD than the Hosts! Really? That goes to show just because you played the game doesnt mean you have a clue what you're doing when it comes to making picks and giving opinions. Now some shows are better than others. Some of the Analysts come across as knowing what the're talking about and show you why. Some just don't have the sense to get off my television.

Thanks for dealing with my rant.

Oh. Super Bowl prediction? Seahawks, Patriots. Sorry guys

Variety in Cigars?

Variety is the spice of life? Variety is not always a good thing..when it comes to cigars. We always say its good to try new things, and it is usually. I mean, how else are you going to find something new you might like? Well it works both ways. Heaven forbid you pay 7 or 8 dollars for a new cigar, just to hate it. What a waste.

Well, its your own fault. Or is it? We ask others for advice, but someones else's recommendation is like anything else-it works for them, not necessarily for you. Even for those of you who subscribe to some cigar magazines beware. Some of the good ratings and featured smokes are bought and paid for. Yes buying them in singles may be good if you dont know if you want to buy them in bulk, but I've found the best way is to purchase samplers online or in the stores if they have them. These usually have a few different brands to try. I'll have to admit, I've never had a sampler where I liked every cigar. But there's usually a few new ones. I have found many brands now I now smoke that I wouldnt have before. I would have been stuck in the ACID brand instead of branching out. Thats not meaning to say I even all the cigars that Drew Estate puts out.

I've managed to try many different samplers and here's a few brands that I've enjoyed enough to smoke again.
CAO, Olivia, NUB, 5 Vegas, Connecticut (By Rocky Patel), Rocky Patel, Exclusively at Cigar Intl-the Legends brand, specifically the Copper label, and newly and only some of them- Gurkha. Most notably the Ghost.
Theres some I've tried which I really didn't care for: The Gran Habano, Hoyo De Monterey, and most of all La Gloria Cubana. When I put these few on the list, that's because they honestly are nasty. Nasty to the point where alcohol cant make them taste good. WOW.

Now I must say having a friend that likes the same cigars you do comes very much in handy. Especially one that runs a cigar shop. My buddy over at Cigar Warehouse knows my tastes well enough to point me over to  a Gurkha that's finally smoke-able. Thumbs up to you!

Now to anyone who is new, what you drink when smoking can make or break your experience. Try to pair your drink with the type of cigar you're smoking. Obviously, Acid brand cigars you'll usually have something on the sweeter side. One of my favorite drinks when smoking is a Rum and Coke. This seems to be my universal drink. Now again just because it works for me doesn't mean it will for you. Don't sit down and have one and blame me because it ruins your expensive cigar. One thing I've recently discovered that seems to go along with some of them is a smooth Lychee Sake. Again, don't blame me for the wrong drink choice. If you sit down with a Coke and expect to have a pleasant smoke, that's entirely on you.

Sometimes it may be best for you to stay in your comfort zone. Much like those who order the same meal every time from a restaurant, maybe that's what works for you.

Either way,

Good Smoking!
